7. Teddy Roosevelt’s Mission

The tourism boom to the canyon area was just what President Theodore Roosevelt needed to pass the 1906 Act for the Preservation of American Antiquities. This paved the way for the President to change the Grand Canyon from a game reserve to a national monument in 1908. Roosevelt was an outdoor enthusiast and avid national park supporter.
