6. Bridge of Sighs, Venice
Made of carved limestone the Bridge of Sighs is poised above a Venice canal. While crossing the bridge, visitors can gaze upon the Ponte dei Sospiri. Constructed in 1602, this bridge is named for the sad sighs of the condemned, who would peer out from behind barred windows as they were sent to Doge’s Palace prison.
